  2. Kathy says:

I took my finished graphic novel to New York (like a wet-behind-the-ears hopeful author). I thought taking it to the NY Comic Con where several graphic Novel Publishers would be all together would be ideal for showing them my stuff. And then to my complete surprise they all sat in a panel and proceeded to tell the hundreds of people there how the industry has changed (like everything). They said they tell everyone to put their stuff on line for free - develop a fan base and then they will pick up the most successful ones! They said you gotta give it away free to make money! WHAT?
Then I talked to the other authors/illustrators and they said,” Who needs them? If we get our own fan base then we sell them the books directly - plus all the other stuff, like t-shirts etc.
What a way of thinking! All my career I was an illustrator who was always told…careful, careful, copyright, copyright- don’t let anyone steal your work, give nothing for free.
    NOW….
give it for free. But you know what? I love it. It suits my nature. I’ve always hated the whole money thing anyway. I love not worrying that someone might steal my idea or my images. It’s so freeing. I guess at some point I’ll have to figure out how to make hard copies because people are requesting them, but for now I’ll just sit back and enjoy people enjoying my story. My story without censorship. My story without anyone telling what colors to use or what words I can’t say. I love it.

  3. I will rub you feet and we will sit under the tree with the bees buzzing about us.

    Looks good. GMD
