Making the Free Love Valley Marrionette head 1. I form an egg shape and stick it on top of a funnel for stability 2. I mark out roughly where the features will be placed 3. I use a tool to squish in eye sockets 4. I poke in eye holes 5. Two olive shapes eyeballs added over holes. 6. Carve eyelids from the olive shaped clay 7. A triangle nose is added 8. Nostrils are poked in 9. The mouth is gouged out 10. The upper lip is shaped 11. A cigar shaped bottom lip is pushed in place under the top lip. If teethare needed, they would’ve been added before the lip. 12. The profile is checked against the reference photo. I always tend to have a sloping back forehead. So at this point , I fix that. 13. I add bits of clay to build up the cheek bones 14. I attach a tape for the neck and set it aside to dry enough for me to hollow it out and make a hole at the top of the head for the string. I cut the back of the head off to scoop out the brains. I make holes through the ears and nostrils and then replace the back of the head and set it aside to dry all the way.
