Art has always saved me. No matter what crazy things happened in my life, I could always turn to art to bring back sanity, peace and joy to my darkest days. But on July 4th , my husband who I have been in love with since I was 14 died from Pancreatic cancer. My art couldn’t shield me from this horror. I don’t have the will or interest to create. My brain tells my hands to do their magic but they rebel. They just lay there with heavy weights forcing them into inactivity. I grow inpatient. I don’t have timeContinue Reading

Let me introduce you to the new, just out of doctor school( drum roll, please) Doctor Ashley! The first rhinoceros to graduate top in her class from Drexel University. She starts her residency tomorrow at Hersey Medical. She will finally get paid in Hersey kisses so she can pay off her student loans. As you may have guess she is a nose, ear and throat doctor. Why not? She’s got the nose for it? I sculpted her head, hands and feet in porcelain. Her body is a wire skelaton( so she is posable ) and stuffed with fluffy whiteContinue Reading
I’ll soon be sewing a lot of tiny doll clothes for my animal people sculptures. And I’ll need tiny buttons. I read about using a leather punch to punch out buttons from plastic or metal and then using a hot needle to make the holes in the plastic or an awl to make holes in the metal. I haven’t tried it yet, but once I do I post the results.
I’ve been working hard on a animal people theme. Certain animals make me think of people that are in books, films and other ways people draw attention to themselves. After all we are all just animals, we think we are more than that, but we’re not. We are. So what do you think? I’ve been having a lot of fun with this series. But I will be only making one of each because you know me, I only like doing one of a kind and then I get bored. And can’t wait to make my next idea. I’ve got moreContinue Reading
This is what I got done yesterday. This is the largest doll I’ve sculpted yet. It was a pure accident. I made another doll’s hand too big, so , of course, I had to make a body to go with the large hands. And that is how she got born. Good thing my real children weren’t accidents like that or I would’ve had 20 instead of 4! Oh! She’s a little imp all right. You can see her personalitity coming out now. My dear friend, Sandy gave me the great idea of painting the eyes before I bisque fire soContinue Reading
This is what’s on my glazing table right now. This is Mortisa from the Adams family. My plans for her is real hair, a dress sewn on her form and moveable arms. I will only use underglaze so she will have matte skin. I might apply some bees wax when it’s all done for a slight sheen. I just finished painting a whole bunch of little heads, arms and legs. Some with become soft bodied dolls with hand sewn clothes and some will become kits. I still have to apply a skin colored glaze over top. I will do someContinue Reading
I’ve been experimenting with paper clay due to its amazing claims! with paper clay there are less cracks, lighter pieces, stronger bonds! But best of all you have the ability to add wet to dry, wet to wet, wet to bisque! This is great for me. I do tiny intrigue sculpture in porcelain. It takes a long time, arms and nose dry fast and crack or fall off. Ankles break in the kiln and naked women fall! I’ve had many disasters. So will paper clay be the answer to my prayers? I think so, my dear friends. I think so.Continue Reading
I have finished five kittens with moveable arms a sweet little hand sewn outfits. They stand on a wood trinket base. You can store treasures in there and the kitty will guard it for you. I’ve already sold the Black swan kitty and the orphaned siamese kitty, but the rest of the litter is looking for a home. They can be purchase in my Etsy shop.
Don’t ask me why I decided that the anteater I sculpted made me think he looked like Johnny Depp in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, but it did. I sculpted the head, hands and wingtip shoes in porcelain clay. When it came out of the kiln I sewed him a wired filled stuffed body. I glued and sewed his porcelain parts to his soft body parts. It was challenging to figure out what I could use to make his amber color sun glasses. I cut the lenses from a pill bottle and then glued them to a wireContinue Reading
