About Poppycock Puppets
How Poppycock Puppets happened
Poppycock Puppets was founded back in the odd, tenuous winter of 2016 in a 300 year old mansion in Pennsylvania . Poppycock Puppets was founded by artist and puppeteer Kathy (katdazzle)O’Connell. We were a small gang of two little old ladies, with a fondness for burlesque dancing, puppets, storytelling and nature. Our first show premiered to a bar full of rowdy craft beer hipsters and stoned hippies.
Since those distant and savage days, the Poppycocks have grown to become a semi-respected troupe of puppeteers doing puppet shows to help out the wee creatures who are tortured by humans.
We are devoted to the advancement of puppetry as an art form that combines a variety of other art forms: acting, dance, sculpture, painting, music, and writing. Our passion for science and nature inspires the unique shows that are meant to educate and entertain the public. We preform quirky shows full of songs, comedy, whimsy, abundant joy, and just a smattering of waggle dancing. We like to address contemporary issues in unique ways. That means you won’t be bored while you learn something you didn’t know before about animals, the environment, relevant societal issues and human nature.
What does our name mean?
Poppycock means nonsense, silliness. We believe if we can make people laugh, they might absorb some of the very important information we are trying to convey with the art of puppetry.
Mission
